海洋熱波とサンゴ被覆変化

Intense and long-duration of marine heatwave (MHW) events were recorded three times near the coral reef area in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia from 2015 to 2022. Historical mapping of coral reefs based on satellite imagery shows that during the MHW in west monsoon season, 39% of coral reef coverage was lost as sea surface temperature exceeded the coral thermal threshold of 29°C. In contrast, the east monsoon serves as the recovery period since the temperature is lower (24-25°C) due to upwelling occurrence.

インドネシア・サブ海におけるSST極小とCHL極大の出現メカニズム

We found 3 local minimum sea surface temperature and surface chlorophyll-a concentration regions in the southern coasts of the Savu Sea in Indonesia during the southeast monsoon season (June to August). And then, we investigated why these regions exist by analyzing the seasonal relative contributions of wind-induced ocean currents (Ekman transport) and air–sea heat fluxes, as well as how these regions respond to remote forcing from the Indian Ocean during Indian Ocean Dipole events.

高水温イベントとサンゴ白化

琉球列島周辺における高水温イベントが、いつどこでどの程度発生していたのか、そして、 それらとサンゴ白化の関係を調べました。高水温イベントは、平均水温が上昇する夏に多発するのに対し、高水温偏差イベントは、1年を通して発生していました。高水温イベントとサンゴ白化は、時間的空間的に同期して起こっていました。また、エルニーニョ変動やインド洋ダイポールモード現象との関係も示唆されました。

北極海 CO2 吸収

第2回 地域炭素収支評価（REgional Carbon Cycle Assessment and Processes-2; RECCAP2）プロジェクトのもと、北極海のCO2吸収量を評価しました。北極海は、世界の主要な海の中で唯一、海洋環境の変化（海氷減少など）がCO2吸収の増加をもたらしている海であることを明らかにしました。北極海は、地球温暖化の影響が大きく、今後も注意深く監視を続けていくことが重要です。
